Ozone-y Power Supply

So I just plugged a 5.25 floppy (which I probably should've tested somewhere else first) into my Amiga and within a few seconds smelled that toasty ozone smell coming from the power supply, so I quickly switched off the machine, which I'm desperately hoping isn't fried...

Anyway, assuming the power supply is toast and probably too dangerous to even test with, what should I replace it with? I could get an A2000 power supply off ebay, but I was thinking about trying to put in an ATX using one of those converters, but what about size? Any good PSU that would easily fit in the case, I don't really want to have to mess around modding stuff...

I can buy a Amiga 600 which was nerver been opened (seal underneath is not broken).

Is it worth buying a Amiga 600? What would be a reasonable price for a A600 in good condition?

A4000 custom 1M kickstart eproms

I'm trying to get a definitive answer to which eproms I can use to build a custom kickstart for an A4000 I am currently working on. I've googled a lot but most of what I've found indicates building our 512k kickstarts. If anyone can give me the specific model of eprom I need I'd be immensely grateful.

P.S. Yes I own legitimate 3.1 roms, OS 3.5, 3.9 and even 4 and 4.1 final edition (but no PPC accelerator, yet!)

Display options for live Amiga use?

Hey guys- I'm considering my options for reviving some Amiga hardware for on-stage use. One of the main concerns is the need for a small but reliable display that would either connect to the RGB port, or just the composite port (if it's the cheaper option)... I saw this very cheap display for the Raspberry Pi: http://www.banggood.com/3_5-Inch-320...p-1023432.html

Is there something in a similar price range that would connect to an Amiga 500/600/1200?

A500 question

Ok, I have an Amiga500 Rev6A. When I install an A501 mem upgrade it gets added to CHIP ram not fast. Is that normal or has someone done the mod so it will add it to chip ram. I also have an GVP 500HD+ with 8 meg's of fast ram. The workbench title shows a full 1meg Chip and a full 8meg of fast. Any thoughts

Which is the best '030 accelerator for A1200

In you opinion, which Blizzard 1230 model is was the best one they made? I know I can get an 040 or an 060 as well, but, I haven't gotten my 1200 recapped yet, and, I have been lead to believe that if you wish to add that kind of power to an old 1200, you'll need to recap the amiga first.

Amiga 1200 rebuild, what should I do to this machine? WHDLoad?

I've been on the lookout for an Amiga 1200 to use as my main Amiga to play games on. My plan is to load WHDLoad (which I've never used) on it.

I finally found and "rescued" one from eBay from a local seller. Sold as non-working, no power supply, missing the trap door cover, very yellow, etc...

Picked it up today and here's what it is:

Commmodore Amiga 1200HD (Rev 1D)
MicroBotics 1200Z Expansion Card w/4MB RAM (maybe 8MB?)
MicroBotics 12 A'Clock Clockport Card
Kickstart 3.0
Maxtor 80MB 2.5" IDE Drive

Attached are some pics. My goal is to clean up this PC and update it to the point where it would make a great WHDLoad machine.

Any comments/suggestions welcome, but here are my questions:

1 - My understanding is that a 1200 with fast RAM makes a great WHDLoad machine. Sounds like I'm all set then. Am I correct?

2 - I see this machine had a clock port clock, and the clock on the MicroBotics 1200Z was disabled. Why is that? Why would I not want to just use the 1200Z's clock, eliminating the clock port card?

3 - System has Kickstart 3.0. Would it be worthwhile to upgrade to 3.1?

4 - I'm planning on sending this board to Acill to get recapped. Anything else I should consider doing to it at the same time? How about the "timing fixes" I often hear about?

5 - I'm thinking about the CF Card IDE interface from AmigaKit:

Anything else worth considering to replace the hard drive? Anything easier to access from the outside?

6 - Will want to get a replacement trapdoor cover. I see some on Shapeways. Any other suggestions to get this replaced?

7 - Any other upgrades/etc. worth doing to the 1200 that I might be missing?

Help getting Testing Items

I need some help finding a better way to test boards I complete. My adaptors are not ideal and I could use some items that anyone isnt using or cares about being hacked into a test bench. Things needed are:

A500/600/1200 Power supplies
A1000,2000,3000,4000 power supplies or good quality adaptors

Empty cases to use as a testing platform

3000/4000 CPU card of any type (getting nervous using my only card)

I'd be happy to do any restoration work as payment or return anything after a time f you want to consider it a loaner item.

FastATA 1200 and Indivision - how to?

I have a A1200 tower with BPPC, Mediator and Indivision. I would like to add a FastATA 1200 MK-V (at present I am using the built-in IDE port) however as far as I have researchet it is not possible to fint everything without some modifications.

Has anybody done it and how?

Since I know I will wait forever to find a Squirrel SCSI...anyone know if standard PCMCIA SCSI cards might work? Special driver needed?

I have a floptical drive I would love to get working with the Amiga.

Woot, spent the evening removing a cap, remotely locating it (look to the left of the indi and you can see it) and fired right up. Love this dang thing!! Why did I wait so long??? This thing KILLS my toastscan!

Oh and I had to show off my awesome WB on my Radeon 9250 too! ;) :laughing:

powerup vs. warpup vs. warp3d ????

In regards to classic amiga's upgraded to powerpc processors. What is the difference between powerup and warpup and warp3d?

I guess the warp3d is somewhat obvious, I am guessing this is more about a 3d driver for graphics cards, but the powerup vs warpup seems to be less obvious to me. Even in aminet there is a separate powerup and warpup categories.

need help with RapidRoad USB and X-Surf 100 in A4000

hi guys, so all hardware and software installation went fine but when I go to use usb nothing happens, run xsurftest and it finds everything ok but memory test fails saying its a cache problem so run xurftest with nochache option and memory test passes but says it can't find RTL8019?

notes:
- i haven't installed any TCP any networking program (Easy net came with the card but since no DVD some files too large to transfer via floppy)
- I'm running OS3.1 on A4000D, CS MKIII (maxed out fast ram and MKIII and MB)

Best way to ensure DD floppies survive another 20 years

Hi Forum ;-)

I just transfered 95% of my old A500 floppies into ADFs, so far so good, 95% still good after 20 years and I doubt they were 100% good when I stashed them 20 years ago.

Now as it is often stated, floppies reach the end of their lifespan at about 20 years, how can I maximize the probability that 20 years from now on I will still be able to play games on the original hardware using original floppies?

Basically I've two options handling my floppies:

1. Leave them as they are, just stash them in an arid dark spot again.
2. Rewrite them before stashing them again.

Problem is, I don't know/understand if rewriting them makes things worse or better.
Do they start to fail because they demagnetize, or because the underlying floppy disk starts to disintegrate?

Any opinion appreciated ;-)

#1 I struggle with my IndivisionECS.
- I empty the dev:monitor/ folder and the computer boots up with colors and working quite nice. in low resolution though.
- The problem occurs when i change ANY screenmode settings. The main WB screen goes into black and white. other screens show colors. dopus i in full color mode, if 16 colors are selected.
- But no matter what other screenmodes i change to, WB screen goes black'n white.
- HighGFX mode does not seem to do any changes. putting the screenmote in monitors does nothing. no new screenmodes to select. and the only file present in the "devs:monitors/" is the highGFX screenmde files.
- Should i put other files there or make any entries to the startup-sequnce?

#2 I struggle getting my buddha finding CF cards. i have an old 500MB HDD that works...... Well... it works....
- I try adding cf adapter to the same cable, changing between M/S. putting the disk and the cf on separate channels, no identifying. all though when HDToolbox scans the controller the cf adapter blinks when it scans unit 5 in the scsi chain.
- Oh. and putting the icon tooltype to "buddha_atapi.device" the HDD does not show up. By just using "ASKDEVICE" in icon tooltype the HDD shows up and i can partition and format it without problems...:eek:
- i use a SanDisk ultra 4GB CF card, and i have multiple adapters. and no avail... no results. though, i can addres it in uae, even partirion and format it. but it does not show up in the A500.... No automount... nothing...

A1200 keyboard, US format

Can someone show me what a US format A1200 keyboard looks like via a photo? My 1200 (commodore made version) is a UK/PAL machine, and, there is one blank key on the bottom left to the immediate right of the LEFT SHIFT key, and, another blank one to the immediate left of the enter key. Both seem to be non functional. I was thinking of picking up a US format keyboard if it is any different, and, more like my A500's keyboard.
